FROM THE PASTOR - DECEMBER 2005
It’s that “most wonderful time of the year” again. Advent and Christmas are a flurry of fantastic activities!
It all begins the Sunday after Thanksgiving, as we decorate the sanctuary. Come help make your church ready for the season.
On the 9th, Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media will release “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.” I don’t usually plug movies, but I do hope you’ll see this one. You might even recognize the basic story line! In fact, you’re invited to join some of us on the 11th after church as we attend a matinee.
The 10th will be our annual Choir Christmas concert. Be sure to check out page 2 for the special menu.
On the 18th some of us will once again gather to go Christmas Caroling. If you’d like to join us, we meet at 4 pm If you’d like us to come to your house to sing, just call the church office.
Of course Christmas Eve we will have both our worship services. The 7pm service is designed for families with kids. It will include familiar carols, special music, a brief Christmas message and communion. Of course there will be goodies for the kids, as well as birthday cake and other refreshments after. Our 11pm service will be our traditional lessons and carols, along with communion, concluding at midnight with the singing of “Silent Night.”
This year, Christmas Day falls on a Sunday. To celebrate this momentous event, we are going to be doing three special things:
1. Our “sermon” that day will be a video entitled, “Why Christmas Trees aren’t perfect.” Come share the story of a small pine tree with big hopes as he and his friends learn that real joy comes from giving of ourselves to help others.
2. Following our “sermon,” we’re all going to make a Christmas tree. What does that mean? Come and find out for yourself.
3. There will also be a special “blessing of the toys.” Children are encouraged to bring a very special toy to the service that day. Together we will ask God to bless these toys, that they might provide years of joy and happiness.
Lots of activities, all designed to remind us that Jesus is the reason for the season.
