First Community United Methodist Church

"A Growing Spiritual Oasis" in Medford, Massachusetts

From the Pastor - September 2007
For the past decade (I get such a thrill writing those words), we have done something special to mark the beginning of the Sunday School year, in addition to our pancake breakfast. We’ve worn T-shirts, hats, and what have you from our favorite college, brought food for the food pantry, and so on. This year’s idea came about after Hugh Faulkner showed me his high school yearbook picture.

On September 9, I’m asking that everyone bring a photocopy of his or her high school yearbook picture with him or her to church, and give it to me in an envelope. I will then place it on the newsprint, which will be placed on the wall over the table in the fellowship hall. Please make sure that you take your name off the picture. If you want to “sneak” in and put your picture up during the week before the 9th, that’s cool too. If you don’t have a photocopy of your high school yearbook picture, the church’s photocopier is available to anyone who’d like to use it.

The idea is to see if you can guess to whom the picture belongs. We’ll leave them up for the remainder of the month, and then the correct guess(es) will be circled. If no one has guessed correctly, the correct name will be written in next to the picture on the 30th. And, for those inquiring minds who want to know, yes, my picture will be included (in fact, I’ll have two of them up, just to make sure you’re paying attention).

I think this will help us get even better acquainted, and be lots of fun as well.
