From the Pastor – March 2008
Our Holy Week/Easter services will be slightly different this year than in previous years. As we do every year, Palms will be distributed on Palm/Passion Sunday; March 16. That Thursday, we will have our Holy Thursday pot luck supper. On the night he was arrested, Jesus gathered with his disciples for one last supper here on earth. During the supper, he instituted what we call communion, Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper. As we have done for the past couple of years, we will remember that last supper with a supper of our own on March 20 at 7pm. Please bring an appetizer, salad, main course, or dessert. We will conclude the meal with communion.
As we did last year, we will host the Good Friday service, sponsored by the Medford Interfaith Clergy Association. The service will be at noon, and is a great way to remember the day Christ was crucified.
This year there will be no Easter Vigil. I will miss it, as it was my very favorite service of the year. However, for the past several years, it has not been well attended. While it may be meaningful to me, it has become clear to me that the service does not meet the spiritual needs of our church, and so I have decided to cancel it. Instead, we will concentrate our efforts on having a celebratory Easter service on the 23rd.
